Aurora East defeated Oswego East 1-0 in the sectional semifinals on Tuesday evening, ending the Wolves' season.
The match concluded at Roy E. Davis Field in Aurora East. Miguel Diaz passed to Kenneth Montana, who scored the only goal in the 68th minute.
Oswego East finished the year with an 18-6-1 record. The team captured its second regional title and set school records for wins and shutouts, with 11 clean sheets.
Aurora East dominated possession and shot volume throughout the contest. The Tomcats recorded 17 shots on goal, while Oswego East managed three.
Oswego East senior goalkeeper Carter Lucas made 10 saves to limit the damage. He had previously made eight saves during Saturday's regional championship.
Coach Steve Szymanski noted that Aurora East maintained high skill levels and effective ball movement. He stated the team knew what to expect but struggled to create scoring opportunities.
Lucas described the sequence leading to the goal as chaotic, with multiple players contesting the same ball. He credited Montana for placing the shot effectively in the top right corner.
The Wolves increased pressure in the final minutes but could not equalize. A controversial no-call near the Aurora East goal left the team without a penalty.
Sixteen seniors will graduate from the Oswego East program in the offseason. Szymanski said the current group established a cultural foundation for future success.
The program's junior varsity squad finished the fall season with a 16-0-2 record, indicating depth for next year.
