The Chicago Bears transformed the McHenry Outdoor Theater into a game-day site on Tuesday. Organizers confirmed the crowd was sold out, marking the first time the franchise has staged a takeover at the drive-in in its 75-year history.
The atmosphere on the property resembled a tailgate party more than a standard movie screening. Fans wore navy and orange gear throughout the venue. The group chanted Bear Down across the grounds, creating a sound level typical of a stadium crowd rather than a suburban theater.
Many attendees traveled short distances to watch the event. Natalie Ryan said she and her group bought tickets immediately because the location is only five minutes from their home. She wanted to celebrate the team close to where they live.
Larry Hoffman noted that he liked seeing the organization connect with fans in the suburbs. He said it is great for the Bears to reach out to places outside of the city. Hoffman emphasized that everyone in the area is a Bears fan, so having them come close to home is a positive step.
Mackenzie Barry said the gathering united fans from across the region. She described the energy as a chance to Bear Down together with neighbors from various parts of the county.
Joe Cicero, the event marketing director, stated he has never seen an event like this at the venue. He pointed out that the Bears have not previously come out to the McHenry area for a similar production.
Scott Dehn, president and owner of Golden Age Cinemas, expressed pride in the sold-out turnout. He said the event is exciting for the theater and the community alike. Dehn noted that having the Chicago Bears come to McHenry is a big deal for the local area, and the team does not take that lightly. Some fans, including Ryan, said they hope the event becomes a yearly tradition for their families.
