Toddler turns 3.9 and becomes NBC meteorologist for Halloween
A Norwood Park family built a custom weather desk for Hazel Kessler to mimic NBC 5's Brant Miller.

Hazel Kessler, who is nearly four years old, has spent the last year obsessing over weather patterns until she became a fixture in her Norwood Park home. Her mother, Gina Kessler, said the toddler talks about clouds and thunder constantly, a fixation her daughter refers to as 'funder.' The family prepared for Halloween by creating a detailed costume that mirrors the appearance of NBC 5 meteorologist Brant Miller.
The DIY setup includes a constructed weather desk designed to look like the studio set. Displaying the child's favorite weather and science picture books, the board features a forecast backdrop. A sign on the display reads, 'Behind every great meteorologist is.. another meteorologist,' referencing the specific segment Miller hosts called Fungus Wednesday.
Gina Kessler noted that watching Miller’s forecasts is one of Hazel’s primary daily activities. The child also enjoys reading weather-related books and checking the moon every night. The family crafted the entire display to honor this specific interest, ensuring the costume looked as authentic as possible for the holiday.
The Kessler household is not the only local family using television weather presenters for inspiration this year. NBC 5 meteorologist Kevin Jeanes also served as the basis for an entire family’s Halloween costumes. Both segments were chosen because of their popularity with young viewers in the Chicago area.
