The artificial intelligence industry is moving its largest private players toward the public markets. On Monday, Anthropic submitted documents to the Securities and Exchange Commission to sell shares to investors for the first time.

The filing positions the San Francisco based firm to list on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol ANT. Reports indicate the company aims to raise as much as $100 billion in the offering. If successful, this would surpass the $86 billion raised by SpaceX during its June debut. The move also puts Anthropic ahead of rival OpenAI in the race to go public.

Financial data within the 335 page document shows rapid revenue growth but deep losses. Anthropic reported a net loss of $80.7 billion for the first half of 2026. This figure represents a sharp increase from the $13 billion loss recorded in the same period a year earlier. The company remains unprofitable, a common trait among tech firms entering the stock market.

Private investors valued Anthropic at $965 billion earlier this year. The filing suggests the company expects to see that valuation climb to $1.5 trillion or potentially $2 trillion. A $1.5 trillion market capitalization would place Anthropic among the most valuable public companies globally, on par with Tesla. The final valuation and offering price have not yet been established.

The offering could provide substantial capital for the five year old startup to expand its operations. The proceeds may also increase the personal wealth of CEO Dario Amodei and his sister and co-founder, Daniela, by billions of dollars. The company plans to use the funds to accelerate its growth strategy in the competitive AI sector.

The timing of the filing follows a recent public statement from Dario Amodei. In an essay published weeks ago, Amodei argued for slowing the development of the most advanced AI models. He warned that these systems could pose an existential threat to humanity if not managed carefully. The IPO filing proceeds despite this cautionary stance from the company's top executive.
