Cheerios cereal boxes will now include a resealable bag made by Ziploc PantrySeal. The partnership addresses a long-standing request from consumers for a better way to keep cereal fresh after opening the package.
General Mills stated that 90% of cereal fans already take extra steps to preserve freshness. These methods include folding the bag, rolling it shut, using clips, or transferring the contents to a different container. The new product aims to replace these improvised solutions with a standardized feature inside the box.
Emilie Knox, Vice President and Business Unit Director for Cheerios at General Mills, said the company received letters, emails, and direct messages asking for an easier resealing method. "We decided it was time to partner with the ultimate freshness brand: Ziploc," Knox said. She added that the product gives consumers a simple solution to an everyday frustration.
The new packaging design opens partially across the top to form a pour spout. This feature allows for easier bowl filling for the whole family. The Ziploc PantrySeal bag then closes securely inside the original Cheerios box to maintain freshness between servings.
The product is available as a new option in cereal aisles. It comes in both standard Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios varieties. The company identified this as a natural pairing for the brand based on consumer habits.
Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal is produced exclusively in Buffalo, New York. This is the same location where Cheerios was first manufactured in 1941.
