One seat on the Skagit County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is currently vacant in District 1. The county is accepting applications from residents of that district who wish to fill the position. The advisory board currently consists of nine members, with three representatives assigned to each of the county's three commissioner districts.

The board collaborates with the Parks, Recreation, Fair & Facilities Department. Its primary role is to advise the Board of County Commissioners on proposed projects, policies, and fees related to parks and recreation. Members typically meet once a month via Microsoft Teams.

A major focus for the group in the coming years is the Skagit County Comprehensive Parks and Recreation Plan. This six-year document is scheduled for an update by April 2028. The plan outlines potential park development, including improvements to the fairgrounds, and sets priorities for service levels that align with resident needs.

The document also details existing and potential funding sources required to maintain facilities and implement specific goals. These objectives are designed to guide county staff and elected officials as they execute the parks plan.

Applicants must submit their forms through the county website. While the county encourages early submission, priority will be given to applications received by Friday, December 4, at 4:30 p.m. The selected member will serve a three-year term, with the expiration date determined by their start date.

Residents can access a map of the three districts and the application form on the Skagit County government website. Inquiries regarding the process can be directed by email to khansen@skagitcountywa.gov.
