Police officers and State Bureau of Investigation agents executed a search warrant at the Sigma Nu Beta Tau fraternity house on Friday.

The law enforcement activity marks a new development in a criminal investigation into hazing allegations at North Carolina State University. The university confirmed the Sigma Nu fraternity is on interim suspension while an internal review of the student code of conduct proceeds.

Campus police stated that the search was conducted with assistance from partner agencies to preserve the integrity of the case. The department noted that NC State does not tolerate hazing and that student safety remains a primary focus.

Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman told reporters on Thursday that she expected charges to follow as the investigation continued. By Friday, Freeman declined to comment further on the specific police activity at the house.

A white sheet bearing the words "Relax Pal" was posted outside the chapter house on Wednesday. The message was later removed, and it remains unclear if it was connected to the ongoing criminal probe. The chapter remains under interim suspension during the review.

A spokesperson for the Sigma Nu Fraternity reissued a statement to ABC11 on Friday. The fraternity said it was founded in direct opposition to hazing and that the practice is prohibited by the organization, the university, and North Carolina law. The group stated it is fully cooperating with law enforcement regarding the reports involving the Beta Tau chapter.

The spokesperson added that any person found responsible should be held accountable under applicable laws. The fraternity emphasized that membership should align with its principles of Love, Honor, and Truth.
