Former County Board member Kelli Wegener is urging residents of District 5 to vote for Austin May on November 3.

Wegener, who represented the district for six years, wrote to the editor of the Berwyn Suburban Life to share her view that May is the strongest candidate for the seat. She said she spent considerable time speaking with voters during her tenure. Most of those conversations focused on property taxes. However, she noted that many constituents also worried about roads, bridges, health services, speed limits, and zoning rules. She described these issues as unglamorous but essential to daily life.

Wegener argued that voters need a board member who listens to them and votes in their interests. She criticized May’s opponent for not talking to constituents. She also said the other candidate is willing to cut critical public health services. Those cuts would affect funding for paving roads and fixing bridges used for commuting and family visits.

Wegener highlighted May’s background as evidence of his commitment to caring for people. She noted that May is from McHenry County and serves as a captain in the Army Reserves. She also mentioned his service in the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps. Wegener pointed to an endorsement from a long time Republican County Board member as proof that May does not get caught up in partisan politics. She said May truly cares about keeping McHenry County healthy and livable.

The election is scheduled for November 3. Wegener asked readers to make sure they vote for Austin May that day.
