The Kankakee Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace is recruiting 25 volunteers for five delivery shifts scheduled between Nov. 7 and Nov. 21. The chapter stated in a press release that it needs helping hands to move beds into local homes. The group aims to help get kids off the floor and into beds before the holidays.
Tim Zydek started the nonprofit in March 2018. He serves as the current co-president. The organization operates under the motto that no kid sleeps on the floor in their town. They average 200 to 250 beds built each year. The chapter also hosts bed-building events for the community.
The chapter has prepared beds for immediate distribution. They require volunteers to transport and assemble the furniture at family residences. The organization noted that volunteers do not have to build the beds to make a difference. They asked for help delivering and assembling them so another child has a bed to call their own.
The first scheduled shift occurs on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. A second shift runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12. The third date is Sunday, Nov. 15, with a shift from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The fourth opportunity is Thursday, Nov. 19, from 10 a.m. to noon. The final shift takes place on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
