Lahaina Tacos now operates from the Pioneer Plaza food court on Fort Street Mall in Honolulu. The family-run business relocated from Maui one year ago to continue serving Mexican food in downtown Honolulu.
Pedro Haro, the owner, and Chef Ana Haro appeared on Hawaii News Now Sunrise to present their menu and discuss their Dia de los Muertos tribute. They are continuing a venture originally started by their brother, Armando Haro, who returned to Mexico. Pedro and Ana use the same family recipes to run the current operation.
Pedro Haro described the business as a collective family effort rather than a single brand. “It’s a family dream. It really isn’t one person. It really isn’t one name. It’s Lahaina,” he said. “Mexico was our original home; Lahaina was our new home. So being able to marry that together and bring food to people here is amazing.”
The couple set up an ofrenda to honor their father, who died three years ago. The display includes photos and his favorite dishes. The tradition honors deceased family members, with November 1 dedicated to children and November 2 dedicated to adults.
The menu features a birria torta seasoned with garlic, onions, tomatoes, and spices. It comes with a dipping sauce made from recipes provided by their mother and grandmother. The kitchen also prepares pork tostadas layered with refried beans and fresh lettuce.
Lahaina Tacos is open Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The location is behind the Bank of Hawaii on Fort Street Mall. The restaurant shares updates on Instagram and TikTok.
