Two people killed or injured in a weekend mass shooting in Bloomington recently graduated from a high school in Carol Stream.
Glenbard High School District 87 officials stated that two victims in the incident near Illinois Wesleyan University graduated from Glenbard North High School earlier this year. The district issued a written statement expressing sadness over the event and its impact on the school community. Officials noted that the news would be particularly difficult for the teachers, staff, and classmates who knew the two graduates.
The shooting occurred in the 100 block of East Division Street at approximately 1:23 a.m. Police responded to reports of gunfire and found numerous victims at the scene. A 19-year-old woman was pronounced dead on site. Seven other people were treated for gunshot wounds. Authorities said at least one victim was in critical condition and transported to a regional trauma center. The remaining six injured individuals are believed to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Illinois State University confirmed that one of its students was among the injured and was released from a local hospital after treatment. WGEM reported that a student from Quincy University was also shot, though that individual’s condition has not been released. Local police asked residents to review security camera footage, including doorbell and dash camera video, for evidence related to the case.
Authorities have not identified any suspects as of Sunday. More information about the investigation was scheduled to be released on Monday.
