Brian White reached the 100-goal milestone in Major League Soccer during a 4-1 victory for the Vancouver Whitecaps over San Diego on Wednesday night. The 30-year-old striker became the 17th player in league history to reach that mark. He scored in the 41st minute by heading a curling pass from Oliver Larraz.

Vancouver, which improved to a 17-8-7 record, extended its lead in the Western Conference to four points. Second-place Dallas lost to Columbus earlier in the week. The Whitecaps also set a new club record for regular-season goals, finishing the match with 67 total. Ryan Gauld contributed a goal and an assist to the effort.

Aleksa Cvetković opened the scoring in the 24th minute. In his fourth start since joining the team in August, Cvetković redirected a pass from Mathias Laborda into the net. It was his first MLS goal. Bruno Caicedo added another goal in the 76th minute on a two-on-one breakaway against goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega.

San Diego, now 8-13-11, extended its winless streak to 10 games. Onni Valakari scored a header in the 83rd minute to pull the visitors within one goal. The result eliminated San Diego from playoff contention for the season.

The Whitecaps host Seattle on Sunday. San Diego travels to St. Louis on Saturday.
