Downers Grove North tops 3A boys cross country sectional

Downers Grove North defeated Hinsdale Central 85-93 to capture the Class 3A Lyons Sectional boys cross country title on Saturday. The Hawks placed five runners in the top 30 to secure the team victory.

Stephen Cox of Downers Grove North finished second in the individual race with a time of 14:54.9. His teammate Charles Novotney placed ninth in 15:18.2. Legend Alka of Willowbrook ran fifth in 15:06.5, followed by Miguel Flores of Morton in sixth at 15:11.3.

Johnny Krueger of Hinsdale Central took seventh place in 15:16.1. Brennan Monohan of Lyons finished eighth in 15:18.0, just ahead of Novotney.

In the Class 3A Kaneland Sectional for boys, Glenbard South's Thomas Jochum won the individual title in 14:32.6. His teammate Giancarlo Pietrasanta placed sixth in 14:58.8. The Raiders finished fourth as a team behind Dixon, Kaneland, and Latin.

Hinsdale Central won the Class 3A Lyons Sectional girls race by edging Downers Grove North 89-91. The Indians placed four runners in the top 15. Macy Ermitage of Downers Grove North was second in 17:36.7, while Brynn Bartkus of Downers Grove South was third in 18:02.6.

Alexandra Furey of Hinsdale Central finished fifth in 18:10.1. Ashlyn Willis of Benet placed seventh in 18:11.9, Juliana Gamboa of Fenwick was eighth in 18:12.6, and Morgan Kohn of Hinsdale Central took ninth in 18:16.8. St. Francis won the Class 3A Kaneland Sectional girls race with 64 points, beating Nazareth and Wheaton Academy, which both scored 78.
