Sarah Scott, a sophomore at Lemont High School, finished the 2026 golf season as the Suburban Life Girls Golfer of the Year after tying for eighth place at the Class 2A state tournament. Her final score of 2-over par marked the top finish by a sophomore at the state level. This result made Scott a two-time all-state honoree, a distinction she achieved during her second year on the team.
Scott’s path to this season began with a sixth-place finish at the state tournament as a freshman. The 2023 season saw the Lemont boys’ team finish fourth in Class 2A state play, with Scott’s brothers, Eddie and Joey, earning medalist honors. Joey, a two-time all-state golfer, now plays at the University of Iowa. Eddie, who qualified for state four times, is currently at the Naval Academy. Scott is the third player to qualify for the state tournament twice under head coach Bill Mondrella’s leadership.
The program history reflects Scott’s current standing. She holds the four best rounds ever recorded by a Lemont girls’ golfer in state finals. Her performance at sectionals, where she finished fourth, secured her spot in the state field. The team entered state play after a mixed season that included a difficult start in conference play and regionals. A 2-under par score at sectionals provided momentum heading into the final weekend of competition.
Scott attributed her performance to a focus on consistency and fundamentals. She noted that playing alongside defending champion Alli Wiertel of Oswego Co-Op and Plainfield East champion Taylor Miller provided valuable experience. She stated that she learned significantly from competing against older players and that the state experience was necessary for her development. Her goal was to finish in the top 10, a target she met as the only sophomore in that group.
Her introduction to the sport came through her father, who brought her and her brothers into the game. She began working with swing coach Kevin Weeks at age 7 or 8. Weeks has coached her for over a decade, focusing on both physical mechanics and mental preparation. Scott practices every day during the high school season and plays tournaments several times a week in the summer. She has played at notable courses including Pinehurst and Trump Doral.
The next phase of Scott’s development focuses on improving her wedge play and short game. She aims to increase her consistency in hitting fairways and greens. Her training regimen includes daily practice with her coach, who lives five minutes from her home. The Lemont golf season concluded with Scott’s state finish, solidifying her position in the program’s history alongside her brothers.
Scott’s achievement places her among the top performers in Lemont golf history. She is the only two-time state qualifier from the girls’ program under Coach Mondrella. Her 2-over par finish at the Class 2A state tournament remains the best result by a sophomore for the school. The Suburban Life award recognized her season-long performance and her contribution to the team’s overall success in 2026.
