Crystal Lake South and Crystal Lake Central met for the third time this season, and the crosstown rivalry delivered a tight contest that came down to the final point. The Gators, seeded second, defeated the third-seeded Tigers 25-23 and 28-26 to capture the Class 3A Woodstock North Regional championship in Woodstock. The victory marks the Gators' second regional title in three years and sets up a sectional semifinal against Kaneland.

The match required late adjustments from the Gators, who led the second set by three points at 24-21 but failed to close it out. Sophomores Katie Piech and Haley Busse scored back-to-back kills to cut the deficit to 24-23. Senior Maya Case then tied the set at 24. Central held two set points at 25-24 and 26-25, but could not finish the set. Senior outside hitter Bobbi Wire tied the score at 25 with a kill that beat the block, and she served the final two points to secure the win.

Logan Georgy, who led the team with nine kills and seven digs, recorded the match-clinching kill from the back row. Senior setter Peyton Ziegler, who finished with 22 assists and two aces, set up the final point. Junior Sahara Okirika contributed seven kills and two blocks, including four kills and both of her blocks in the opening set. Senior libero Layla Addison finished with nine digs, including two diving digs on the final point.

Coach Jorie Fontana noted that playing a familiar opponent for the third time presents unique challenges. "It’s the worst, and it’s the worst when it’s someone like Central, because they’ve got some phenomenal hitters," Fontana said. "They have the tenacity and spirit where you know they’re not going to let down."

Central coach Amy Johnson highlighted her team's resilience after starting the season with nine straight losses. The Tigers, with a 15-21 record, have played some of their best volleyball during the playoffs. "Starting 0-9 was quite the gut check for them," Johnson said. "I think the biggest message I had for them this season was trust the process."

The Gators, with a 24-11 record, will host fourth-seeded Kaneland at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a Crystal Lake Sectional semifinal. Kaneland advanced by defeating top-seeded Sterling 25-22, 19-25, 25-19. Crystal Lake South has not won a sectional title since 2017.
