The Kishwaukee College Foundation announced the creation of the Dr. Robert and Diane Hammon Endowment on Oct. 29. The fund will distribute need-based grants to students who graduated from Sycamore High School and are currently enrolled at Kishwaukee College. To qualify, applicants must demonstrate financial need and a history of community involvement.

Robert Hammon said the couple wanted to give back to the community through the college. "We have always wanted to contribute to the Kishwaukee College Foundation to help students," he said in a news release. "It’s an opportunity to give back to the community through Kishwaukee College and help students who have been active in their communities, allowing them to further their education."

The endowment requires applicants to submit a written statement. This document must describe how their community service shaped their personal growth, values, and future goals. The Hammons have long served in local leadership roles. Robert Hammon served as the Sycamore Community School District assistant superintendent from 1984 to 1992. He then served as superintendent from 1992 to 2005. He currently holds the position of vice chairman on the Kishwaukee College Board of Trustees.

Diane Hammon has worked in real estate since 1984. Both Hammons hold leadership positions in the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce. They also serve in the Kishwaukee Sunrise and Sycamore Rotary clubs. Courtney Walz, the executive director of the Kishwaukee College Foundation, thanked the couple for their support. "We are thankful for the Hammons’ thoughtful donation," Walz said. "Their support of community involvement and their generosity will make a meaningful difference for our community and students at Kishwaukee College for years to come."
