Anthony Nunnally faces a new felony count as he waits for trial in three separate murder cases. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office indicted the 21-year-old on Oct. 9 for bringing a controlled substance into a penal institution. This charge adds to the aggravated vehicular hijacking and armed robbery counts that have kept him in custody since October 2025.

Correctional staff discovered the substance on May 18 inside Cook County Jail. Officers observed Nunnally repeatedly reaching into his pants. A subsequent search revealed two small, saturated squares of paper wrapped in a larger sheet inside the crotch of his long underwear. The Illinois State Police lab analyzed the items and confirmed they tested positive for a synthetic cannabinoid and buprenorphine.

Nunnally is currently charged with the killing of 19-year-old Sierra Evans. Evans was found shot to death in an alley near 95th Street and South Avenue N in September 2024. Prosecutors state that Evans and Nunnally had dated for approximately one month. A woman who later dated Nunnally told investigators he admitted to killing Evans. She also said he threatened to kill her in the same manner.

In a second case, Nunnally is accused of killing 17-year-old Gabriella Arellano in October 2025. Arellano was found shot in a vacant lot near 110th Street and South Mackinaw. Surveillance video placed Nunnally and another person in the area before the shooting occurred. Prosecutors allege Nunnally told a cooperating jail inmate he killed Arellano because he believed she was going to betray him.

The third charge involves the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Travon Freeman on Sept. 29, 2025. Chicago police reported that Freeman was outside in the 8300 block of South Baker Avenue when two people approached him and fired shots. Freeman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nunnally is scheduled to appear back in court on Dec. 21. The sheriff’s office confirmed the date for his next hearing. The new drug charge will be handled alongside his existing murder and robbery cases.
