U.S. Marshals Rescue 10-Year-Old Girl from Oregon City Home After Early Morning Abduction
A suspect was arrested after tactical teams found the child tied in a closet; the family's 12-year-old son remains hospitalized.

U.S. Marshals Service tactical teams recovered a 10-year-old girl on Wednesday afternoon in Oregon City, Oregon, following an incident that began in the pre-dawn hours in Canby.
Investigators stated that a man entered an apartment at 1:39 a.m., injured a 12-year-old child, and removed the 10-year-old from the residence. The younger boy was transported to a hospital and was still receiving treatment as of Wednesday afternoon.
The Marshals located the girl inside a home where she was found tied up in a closet. She was subsequently taken to a hospital for care. Vince Edgar Chavez attempted to flee through the rear of the property but was taken into custody.
Canby Police Department officials explained that an Amber Alert was not issued because the agency had not yet gathered the necessary information for such a warning. The parents are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Carus Elementary, the girl's school, deployed additional police officers during the afternoon dismissal period as a precautionary measure. The school district issued a statement expressing support for the students and staff.
"Our hearts are with this child and her family," the district wrote. "Please know that we are here to support our students, staff and families in whatever ways we can."
