The DuPage County State's Attorney's Office secured pretrial detention orders for four men on Friday following a coordinated police operation targeting a series of burglaries at gaming establishments. Keonte Adams, 20, Dajuan Johnson, 24, Kyronte McCondichie, 20, and Daryl Nesbit, 19, all Chicago residents, were charged with armed violence, unlawful possession of a weapon, burglary, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, criminal damage to property, and aggravated fleeing and eluding.
According to prosecutors, the incident began around 4:32 a.m. on Thursday when Addison police and other DuPage County law enforcement agencies observed a black Dodge Durango and a white BMW, both reported stolen, traveling together on Lake Street. Approximately five minutes later, the two vehicles backed into parking spaces outside Maria’s Gaming Café, located at 40 E. Lake St. in Addison.
Authorities allege that five individuals, four of whom were armed, entered the café using large sledgehammers and a crowbar. The group spent roughly two minutes inside the establishment, smashing gaming machines and removing nearly $13,850 in cash. The raid caused more than $100,000 in damage to the property.
As the suspects fled, the white BMW struck spike strips, causing its three occupants to abandon the vehicle and transfer into the Dodge Durango. Police pursued the SUV until additional spike strips disabled it. The eight individuals involved then fled on foot near the intersection of Van Buren and 31st Avenue in Bellwood.
Law enforcement officers eventually took four of the suspects into custody. A search of the vehicles uncovered several loaded firearms, including a handgun fitted with a device that allows it to fire fully automatically, along with various burglary tools.
