Polls in Illinois closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday for the midterm elections.

Voters across DuPage County and suburban Cook County decided outcomes in five major contests. Results will arrive throughout the night, though official certification occurs two weeks after Election Day. The races span executive county offices, state legislative seats, and a local tax referendum.

Democrat Paula Deacon Garcia faces Republican Patricia Kladis-Schiappa for DuPage County Clerk. Deacon Garcia has served on the DuPage County Board since December 2020 and represents District 2. She previously worked for the village of Lisle for 21 years. Kladis-Schiappa is an attorney with more than 20 years of experience in workers' compensation law. The incumbent, Jean Kaczmarek, lost in the primary following a conflict with the county board.

In the DuPage County Sheriff race, Democrat Peter Joseph Coolidge challenges Republican Sean T. Noonan. Coolidge worked in all three bureaus of the Sheriff's Office for 28 years before retiring in 2024. His campaign cites a goal to restore public trust and uphold state law limiting cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Noonan has 24 years of law enforcement experience and served on the DuPage County Board for eight years. He pledged to increase transparency and expand task forces with local police departments.

Residents in Downers Grove Township voted on a referendum to create a 708 Mental Health Board. The township is the only one in DuPage County without such a board. These boards fund local organizations supporting residents with mental health issues, intellectual disabilities, and substance use disorders. If approved, a home valued at $400,000 would incur an annual tax of approximately $66.

Two state House races concluded in the suburban Cook and DuPage area. In the 42nd District, incumbent Democrat Margaret A. DeLaRosa defeated Republican Stephanie Trussell. DeLaRosa, a Glenbard District 87 school board member, was appointed to the seat in October 2025. Trussell, who owns a hot dog restaurant in Lisle, sought to cap property taxes and end the gas tax. In the 47th District, Democrat Erica Bray-Parker faced Republican Robert A. Vrankovich. Bray-Parker, a retired teacher on the Wheaton City Council, focused on public safety and cost of living. Vrankovich, a Carol Stream resident, campaigned on cutting taxes and supporting law enforcement.
